Help
to protect all lepidoptera in our area.
The three counties of Bucks,
Berks and Oxfordshire offer a wide diversity of habitats. These
include the chalk downland of the Chiltern Hills, areas of ancient woodland,
and tracts of heathland that still remain intact in Berkshire.
We
are home to forty five species of butterfly. These include the Purple
Emperor, White
Admiral and Wood
White, three woodland species. We have all five species of hairstreak,
including strong colonies of Black
Hairstreak and Brown
Hairstreak. Other resident species of note are the Duke of Burgundy,
Silver Spotted Skipper,
Adonis Blue and Silver Studded Blue.
We are also home to many hundreds of species of moth, including the
rare Striped
Lychnis moth which has one of its strongholds in our area.
